Earth Science

On Monday we did some science and our topic was based on Earth Science. I've learnt a lot of things like the meaning of Magma which means a hot fluid  material within the earth's crust. Did you know that volcanoes usually erupt in hawaii and is constructed of 5 major volcanoes which are called Kilauea, Mauna Loa, Mauna Kea, Hualalai and Kohala. Mauna Loa is also known as the largest active volcano on earth. Now enough of talking about volcanoes, here is a form I made for you to fill out. Enjoy :)

Technology Science (Heart & Pulse Rate)

In the first activity we had to sit down for 30sec and write down our pulse/heart rate then we moved on to the next activity which was to jog on the spot for 30 sec. After we jogged on the spot we wrote down our pulse/heart rate again. Therefore we had to start the next activity which was to throw and catch the ball for 30sec. After that activity we did another activity which was to stretch for 30 sec, after stretching we had to write down our pulse/heart rate. Next we had to do some star jumps for 30 sec. The final activity was to run as fast as we possibly could for 30 sec and write down our pulse/heart rate.

Technology Science (Acids and Bases)

First Mrs Sharma (our teacher) poured some liquid into a well plate and gave us 10 red litmus papers and 10 blue litmus papers. Next we had to make a table and list down all the liquids that we were going to use. After that we dipped each litmus paper into each liquid to see if it was acid, base, or neutral. When we finished that it was time to pack up and go back to school.

Science Technology - Osmosis and Transpiration

 First we filled a conical flask with 200ml of water. Next we put 10 drops of food colouring into the conical flask. After that we cut the end of our celery then put it into the conical flask and stirred it. Then we put a plastic bag over it and tied it. When we finished, we had to wait 30 min. 30 min later we had to take the celery out of the conical flask and cut it in half to see if it absorbed any colour.

Bubble Science Technology

 Today our topic was about bubble science. First we had to fill 125ml of water into a 250ml beaker. Next we had to put 5g of sugar into a petri-dish and weigh it onto the weighing machine. After that we had to pour the sugar into the beaker and stir it until all the sugar was dissolved. When the sugar was dissolved we had to add 3 ml of  glycerol and 10 ml of detergent and stir it slowly. Once we've finished that we had to make a bubble wand. After a while Mrs Sharma gave us some straws to blow the bubbles with. The first challenge for us was to make a caterpillar then a carousel and then a cube. When we finished that it was time to go back to school.

Technology Science Flower Power

 In science our topic was about flower power. The instruction given to us was to carefully dissect a hibiscus flower and bud to identify and collate the flower and bud parts. The equipment we used was a hibiscus flower, A small knife or scalpel, A sheet of A3 paper, tweezers, glass slide and cover slip, and a microscope. First we had to remove a petal from the hibiscus and a sepal. Next we had to cut the hibiscus in half starting from the thalamus and cutting up to the stigma. When we've finished that we had to take some anthers from the hibiscus and put it onto a glass slide and mash it. After that we had to put two drops of water onto the glass slide and lay a cover slip on top of it, then we put it under a microscope and looked through it.

Coconut Tree Animation

 

In class we did an animation about coconut trees and what uses they are for. I hope that this animation can teach you more about coconut trees or if you already know about them I hope you have learnt something new. Sit back, relax and enjoy the animation.


Technology Science (Float, Sink, and Semi-floating)

 In science we did an experiment on sinking, floating and semi-floating. Before We tested each object, we measured the size, we measured the weight, we described the material and predicted density.

Technology Science - Task 3 (Science Experiments)

Today in science we did an experiment. First we poured 100ml of cold water into the beaker. Next we had to scoop 10g of sugar into the petri dish and put it on to the weighing machine. After that we started our timer, poured the sugar in and stirred it with a stirring rod until all the sugar was dissolved. After that we used 100 ml of hot water and another 10g of sugar then started our timer and stirred the water again until the sugar was dissolved. 

The time for the sugar in the cold water to dissolve was 1min 5sec

The time for the sugar in the hot water to dissolve was 22sec

Technology science

Today in science we were working on equipment. First our teacher Mrs Wong gave out some worksheets with names of equipments on it. We had to pick a word from the worksheet and pick equipment from the basket and figure out what that equipment was called. Once we were done with that we had to make a doc about all the equipment we used and write down the names for it. While we were busy with our docs Mrs Wong told us to pour 50 ml of water into a cup (I don't know what the name of this cup is) and pour that cup of water into a beaker until it is up to 100 ml. When we finished that we had to continue working on our doc. After a few minutes of working it was almost time to go back to school so Mrs Wong decided that we were going to play a game. When we finished the game it was time to go back to school.

Technology Science

Science Technology

Today was my first day in science and our first day of the rotation. In science our teacher Mrs Sharma had made labels for us to write our names on and put it on our desks so that she could memorise it. When we finished writing down our names we had to make a science folder and share it with our teacher so she could see if we needed to finish any work or if we have completed. After that we were about to do our first task which was to write down five science words but we couldn't do that task so we did task two instead which was to make a paper plane and fly it to see how far it goes, but before we did that we had to watch a video of how planes fly. In the video was four important things that make a plane fly, the first one was thrust, second lift, third drag and the fourth one was weight. Thrust helps the plane move forward, lift helps the plane go up, drag is the force that helps the plane slow down and weight is caused by gravity and is what forces the plane down. After watching the video we started making our planes. When we finished making our planes we had to create a doc and make a table to record how far our planes went, we had three tries and my first try was 4.60m, second one was 5.50m and my last one was 7m. When we finished flying our planes we did task 3 which was to look at four different photos and write down where we thought the place was and what we saw. After we did that we only had five minutes left so in those five minutes we had a break and ate some sweets. When those five minutes were up we had to go back to school.

Reading e Asttle Test

 

 
Last week we did an e Asttle Reading Test and on that test I got a 4P which im proud of because in my last test I got a 4B which means I made progress. In my next test I am going to try and get a 4A so I can make more progress and go up one stage at a time.

Math e Asttle Test

 

 

Last week we did a Math e-Asttle Test, I got a 4P and in my last test I got a 4B so I made a little bit  of progress. We do a Math, Reading and Writing test every term of the year to see if we made progress or not, for example if I got a 4B in term one and at the end of term two I get a 4P then that means I made some progress but if I got a 4B and went Down to a 3A I did not make any progress so I need to try harder for the next test.

We do PAT Tests two times a year, and the marks go from  one - nine. In the beginning of the year we do a test to see what mark we got and the gaps that we have to fill in. In the end of the year we see how much progress we made or how much we failed.

All About Me



My name is Luisa i'm a year 8 that goes to Glen Innes school, i'm in room 6 my teachers name is Mrs Petersen and she's a really fun teacher also a little bit boring, i'm just kidding she's actually a fun teacher most of the times. I have six siblings two brothers and four sisters and my favourite subject in school is Math. Now let me tell you some of my favourite hobbies, playing games, cooking, drawing and sometimes cleaning.  

Personal Goal

  • Jump off a helicopter 
  • Stay underwater for 1 min and 30 secs
  • Run one and a half kilometers without stopping
  • jump over 30 piles of pillows
